Summary
Lightworks received an inquiry from a homeowner whose goal was to upgrade the audio, video, and lighting systems in their new residence. They were looking to upgrade the audio and video systems and replace and upgrade the pre-installed dimmers and switches and wanted to work with a trusted technology partner to achieve this vision. The client specified Savant as the home automation system as they were familiar with Savant products as they had a Savant system installed in their home on the East Coast.

The client's residence was already built and had pre-existing non-smart dimmers and switches; therefore, the challenge was to replace the existing systems with new, more advanced, and hi-end technology without damaging the walls and ceilings.
Working closely with Designer Julie Smith, from Jula Cole Design, Lightworks was able to develop a customized solution that met the client's needs. The team replaced the existing pre-installed dimmers and switches with Lutron dimmers, switches, and keypads. Ketra downlights were retrofitted to provide the perfect lighting ambiance for the client's home. To further enhance the beauty of the residence, adjustable Ketra ‘wall-wash’ downlights were installed to illuminate and bring out the colors in the artwork. Ketra lighting fixtures were programmed to match their circadian rhythm, and Lutron lighting keypads were installed for easy control.
For video distribution, Lightworks installed a full Savant system with video tiling in every room. In the living room, Bang and Olufsen Beo 28 speakers were specified for high-quality sound. Additionally, Origin Acoustics speakers were fitted in every room with Savant soundbars, which can double as either distributed audio or surround sound. Access control was provided by Yale, an Ubiquiti Wi-Fi 6 network was installed for fast and reliable internet connectivity, along with an integrated security system with a Paradox alarm and Luma cameras for surveillance.
To address retrofit wiring challenges, Lutron Triathlon battery-powered shades were installed in all rooms. In the bedrooms dual shades were specified for total light control while in the main areas of the house, one shade was fitted. In all rooms, a custom architectural fascia was specified to match both the window and wall colors, so that the shades effortlessly blended into the space.
This project achieved the client's vision for a seamless upgrade to the lighting, audio, and video systems in their new residence. Despite the challenges of retrofitting, the team was able to integrate new technologies while minimizing the impact on the existing structure. As the client continues to expand the project in stages, the next phase is to add pool control, landscape lighting, landscape audio, and garage automation. Lightworks will also continue to replace lighting in the other rooms in the future, based on the needs of the client.
