San Diego Clifftop Residence
Built by Carrion Construction, this gorgeous ranch style home was designed by the architect Tom King and interior designer Kate Le Count. This home, being very transitional in style, demonstrates how technology can be integrated into an environment without affecting the integrity of the home’s style and design.
From the moment you arrive at the home, you become aware how smart this house is. A Savant operating system controls access to the home at three points – the drive gate pedestal, pedestrian gate, and the service entrance. Through the intercom guests can announce themselves and homeowners can see and speak to them via any of the seven touch panels situated through-out the home or on their phone. When access is granted, the two grand iron gates open to a gorgeous garden through which you can see the home and the incredible water views! The Savant access control is programmed to allow access to service staff, via the service gate, on allocated days and times as specified by the property managers. The home is secured by a state-of-the-art burglar/fire and surveillance system.
Requested by the homeowner, a Savant operating system was installed to provide consistent user experience, due to the homeowner having Savant systems in their other residences. They also specified that Savant IP audio be distributed to 16 areas in the home and centrally distributed video to 14 TVs as well. Controlled, via the Savant app, are lights in the pool and landscape areas as well as pool and spa temperatures. These can all be remotely operated so that the owners can heat the spa or pool on their way home, perhaps after a game of golf. Speaking of golf, this home features a putting green at the front of the house with lights installed in the putting holes. A game of golf can be enjoyed during the day or at night.
The three fountains located in the front entrance, as well as the fire pit off the living room, are automated through the app. The thermal climate-controlled server room consists of three home automation floor standing racks and the Lutron HomeWorks lighting control panels, as well as a backup generator. The dedicated media room displays a 100-inch Sony TV with Savant tiling, allowing homeowners to divide the TV into 4 different pictures. This room, as well as the master suite, includes a combination of sheerweave and blackout Lutron roller shades, which are also located through-out the rest of home for both privacy and light control.
The prime viewing spots in this home are located outside in the pavilion and cove, which include three Samsung outdoor rated TV’s. From these spaces you can not only enjoy watching your favorite show or sports game, but you can observe the amazing views this home has to offer. Exterior rated LED tape light, in the cove, provides an atmosphere during dusk and evening.
This home boasts every luxury when it comes to technology which extends to the lighting design and control. The lighting control system, dimmers, and lighting keypads are all from Lutron HomeWorks. With the high-end designer chandeliers and pendants throughout the home, the lighting in the closets illuminate the shoe racks and hanging clothes. A standout lighting feature in this home is in the wine room where the translucent rock wall is backlit, adding to the overall sophistication through-out this home.
This project is a demonstration of a continued partnership where LIGHTWORKS continues to act as the one source solution for the client as well as their trades and design partners.
